Monochrome Madness

Hi, Here are some pictures of my first set. I don't know if I'll ever get around to animating anything because I'm having so much fun doing this! That is to say, it's still work in progress and I need to work on the shadows and drybrushing. It's basically the corner of a room...we have a front door (made using 2mm card, various sizes of balsa and the netting that once surrounded a alcoholic beverage bottle). There's also a welsh dresser type thing which was modified from what was originally going to be kitchen units. The books were all hand cut from 2mm card, which also supplied the carcass of the dresser itself. Other items of interest include the light switch, made using more card and balsa, with the wire being florist wire from my original armature and the notice board/mirror/picture which I have yet to do anything with. I don't know how it comes across in the pics...maybe it works better in the flesh, looking rather 2D but actually being 3D. Hmmmmmm. These are great! I love the wonky angles.

Especially the curving bookshelves! Nice mix of 3d shapes with a 2d surface treatment - it will be interesting to see how this looks when animated and shot from different angles.

Okay, I've just about finished now. It's looking a bit more radical since the last shots, but I like it. The floor was fun, with a fat black pen. I need to drill tie down holes then, which seems a shame, but hey ho. Your 3D set looks like a 2D ink sketch. It's a bizarre effect. It's so strange and I like it. Good work :)

Gotta love the animator-in-set shots! Really cool effect - it took me a 2nd look to realize that wasn't a 2D sketch of the set - works really well.

The finished set is fantastic! When do we get to see the stars?
