Russian palace?

I need to build a really small russian palace, only for one shot, and then it switches to inside. I've already made the interior, which is the right size for my puppets, but the outside doesn't need to be so big, i'm thinking about 4 inches high? this also means i don't need to much detail. I wouldn't know how to make the onion domes, or any of the beatiful ornimental detail. Maybe something like this..? http://www.thelightisgreen.com/Russia%20palace_1.jpg If you have any ideas on how I should make it that would help. Marnik www.morilyon.blogspot.com

Such a small model implies that it won't fill the frame, in other words, it will be a loooooong shot - am I right? If so, you could get away with a fairly impressionistic approach. If it was me, I'd make the onion domes from Super Sculpey clay - don't bother texturing them like some of the domes on St Basil's (in your photo), just bake the Sculpey domes and paint on the various stripes. As for the towers and main body of the palace, you could either do a straightforward model building from wood, plastic, whatever you feel comfortable with, or you could break down the design of each element (towers etc.) and make your own card model using a computer. Then, just print from a colour printer and stick together, adding the clay domes at the end.

Thanks, it turns out I've nearly finished it now anyways, but thanks for your help. I'll post it here when it's finished. Thanks for your help :) Marnik www.morilyon.blogspot.com
