How I made a simple house exterior
OK, just if anyone's interested,
this is a simple method I used to construct the exterior of spats' house:
the first stage was constructing a frame from balsa wood and glue, and roughly glueing This stuff that's like cardboard only a bit stronger on as panels.
Then I covered it in paper mache, the rough, wonky look was what I was looking for.
then I blocked in colours with paint on a sponge, and added details with felt tip pens, to make it look kind of like a drawn cartoon.
Later I will add a door, and doorstep and put it onto the board with the surrounding garden. I'll post a picture of how it appears in the actual shot once more models have been made.
OH, and I realise I should have cut the window at the panelling stage, but I didn't so I made a window from card, cardboard, and clear plastic packaging

I hope Spat lives alone!

I think doing the window, the way you have, adds to the drawn cartoon look you were going for... Happy accidents (you've got to love them)!

he lives with his cat
(of course his house is gonna be much bigger on the inside, kinda like that thing in doctor who, but not justified at all)

Great! I think with the right lighting you can really make this house look awesome. What's the story like?

He's a 'the godfather' type gangster living in modern suburbia. He is frustrated by the 'gangsta' type people you get these days, so tries to thwart them, but his plans always backfire (resulting in warner brothers style cartoon violence)
