Making mud flats

Hello! I'm working on a short moby Dick inspired tale involving a clammer in pursuit of the Great Purple Clam. For my mud flats, I'm planning to melt down some Van Aken in a double boiler and pour it right onto my foam/plywood set. I've never melted the stuff before and have a few questions... Will it pour well? Does it stink? If I'm near a smoke detector am I likely to set it off? Once I remove the pot from heat, how long before it ceases to be pourable? Any other tips or advice? Thanks!

Hi there, once itīs melted it pours perfectly it getīs as thin as water or milk. it does not really stink but you can smell it. the smoke detector will not get off as long as you do not overheat or burn the clay - if you do it will smoke. best, Juergen www.juergenkling.de
