EFF : CELEBRATING SCOTTISH FILM?
A few weeks ago, I read an article about the upcoming 70th Edition of the Edinburgh Film Festival. The article, which was essentially an EFF Press Release, proudly proclaimed that this year, EFF would be “Celebrating Scottish Film”.

Well… Isn’t that a novel idea?

Celebrating Scottish Film at the Edinburgh Film Festival. For those that know me well enough, you can well imagine the effing and blinding I did when I read that article.

Only in Scotland. Only in a Country that treats its film industry, as a sort of uncomfortable blister, that really should have something done about it, but you’re a bit worried about what it might do, if you try.

I could write a great deal more here on this. Frankly though, I’m still too upset about it, all these weeks later, to get anything particularly useful onto the page. And, it’s all I can do not to fill this little piece with many shards of fractious anger in the form of expertly placed sweary words.

No matter. The state of Scottish Film is something I will return to on this site rather a lot. So, I’ll close here with the sentence that popped into my head when I read :

“...SCOTTISH FILMMAKING CELEBRATED AT THE 70TH EDITION OF THE EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL…”

...Surely, we ought to be doing that at EVERY edition of the Edinburgh Film Festival?
